Easy Boston Cream Pie Trifle Recipe

  • Author: Sandy
  • Total Time: 2 hours 55 minutes (including chilling)

  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

This Boston Cream Pie Trifle combines layers of yellow cake, vanilla pudding, whipped topping, and chocolate ganache in a stunning no-bake dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 box yellow cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)
  • 2 (3.4 oz) boxes instant French vanilla pudding mix
  • 4 cups milk
  • 16 oz Cool Whip, divided
  • 8 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1 tsp instant coffee (not coffee grounds)
  • Pinch of sea salt

Instructions

  1. Bake the Cake: Prepare the yellow cake mix according to box instructions. Bake in a 9×13-inch pan and let it cool completely. Once cooled, cut into small, bite-sized squares.
  2. Make the Pudding Layer: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the instant French vanilla pudding mix and milk until smooth and thickened. Gently fold in 1/2 cup of Cool Whip using a rubber spatula to add a light, creamy texture.
  3. Prepare the Ganache: In a double boiler (or a heatproof bowl over a pot of simmering water), melt the chocolate chips with the heavy cream and instant coffee. Stir until completely smooth and glossy. Add a pinch of sea salt and stir to combine. Let cool slightly.
  4. Layer the Trifle: In a clear trifle bowl, start by layering 1/3 of the cake squares at the bottom. Spoon 1/3 of the pudding over the cake and gently drizzle 1/3 of the ganache over the pudding layer.
  5. Repeat: Continue layering until you’ve used all the components: cake, pudding, and ganache, creating three even layers.
  6. Top It Off: Use the remaining Cool Whip to top the Boston Cream Pie Trifle. You can pipe it on using a piping bag or spread it evenly over the top.
  7. Chill: Refrigerate for at least 2 hours (or overnight) to allow the layers to set and the flavors to meld.
  8. Serve and Enjoy: Spoon into individual bowls and enjoy every creamy, chocolatey, cake-filled bite.
