  • Author: Elyna
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 20 bites 1x

Description

Apple Fritter Bites are the ultimate bite-sized treat, combining warm cinnamon-spiced apples with a sweet, sticky apple cider glaze. Perfect for dessert, a party snack, or an indulgent breakfast, these baked fritters are lighter than their fried counterparts but still deliver incredible flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Fritter Bites:

  • Nonstick cooking spray
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 ½ cups finely diced Honeycrisp or Gala apples (about 2 medium)

For the Apple Cider Glaze:

  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • ⅓ cup + 2 tablespoons apple cider or apple juice

Instructions

Step 1: Get the Oven and Baking Sheet Ready

  1. Set your oven to 400°F (200°C) to preheat.
  2. Lightly coat a baking sheet with nonstick spray or cover it with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Step 2: Mix the Dry Ingredients

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon until evenly combined.

Step 3: Prepare the Wet Ingredients

  1. In a large bowl, whisk the melted butter and sugar until well combined.
  2. Add the egg, vanilla extract, and applesauce to the butter mixture. Whisk until smooth.

Step 4: Combine the Batter

  1. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  2. Fold in the diced apples, ensuring they are evenly distributed.

Step 5: Scoop and Bake

  1. Use a tablespoon to scoop batter portions and drop them onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them a few inches apart.
  2. Bake for 10 minutes or until the fritters are slightly golden and set.

Step 6: Prepare the Glaze

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and apple cider until the glaze is thin and pourable.

Step 7: Glaze and Broil

  1. Brush a thin layer of glaze over the warm fritter bites, allowing it to drip down the sides.
  2. Turn your oven to the broil setting and place the fritters under the broiler for 2-4 minutes. Rotate the pan frequently until the glaze starts to caramelize and bubble.

Step 8: Final Glaze

  1. Remove the fritters from the oven and brush the remaining glaze evenly over the tops.
  2. Let the fritters sit for 15 minutes to allow the glaze to set before serving.

Notes

  • Use finely diced apples for even baking.
  • Keep a close watch during broiling to prevent the glaze from burning.
  • Adjust glaze consistency by adding more powdered sugar for thickness or more apple cider to thin it out.
